"Phantom Ship"
One of my most favorite pictures of Crater Lake, Oregon. Taken from the East side of the calderas.

On a trip to Crater Lake National Park last summer is this overlook by the Park headquarters. This view of Wizard Island is one of the most popular ... for good reason!

Another spectacular view of the lake and Wizard Island from the calderas rim trail.

Another view of this stunning area taken from the Eastern side of the Rim. There is a short trail to this vista which is a must see!

The Pinnacles were formed when the pumice from the eruption of Mount Mazama were gradually eroded by streams. The pumice dates to nearly 7,700 years ago when eruptions were near their peak. The distinctive cones, or fumeroles (vents for the escape of gas), of The Pinnnacles exist because hot gasses (like 750° hot) welded the interior of the fumeroles when they escaped. The end result, pumice + welding gasses + erosion, are the cones you see. Strange land for sure!

Deep at the bottom of this valley of pinnacles lies Annie Creek. In the backgroup is the remains of Mt. Mazama which holds Crater Lake. I will have to hike in that canyon one day!
