The Heart of the Oregon Coast

Within these borders sit some of Oregon's most picturesque coastal scenery, rugged clifflines and vast sandy beaches. quiet coastal towns where the loudest sounds you will hear are the waves on the shoreline and the seagulls overhead. The solitude of the quiet months on the Central Oregon Coast brings relaxing stretches of peaceful beaches, lighthouses, untouched tidepools as well as nights in front of a fireplace. Storm watching brings the winter fury of the Pacific, capturing your breath as the crashing waves pound the rock beaches and send water shooting into the sky.

    Cape mears lighthouse

Another awesome lighthouse on the Oregon Coast. Cape Mears Lighthouse was commissioned on January 1, 1890.  The tower stands 38 feet high and is the shortest lighthouse in the state.  It is constructed of bricks (made right on site at a cost of $2,900) with iron plates (made in Portland and shipped by wagon) covering it.

    yaquina head lighthouse

Have you ever climbed the stairs of a lighthouse?  Wondered what it was like to be a lighthouse keeper?  The 93 foot tower, Oregon's tallest, is located on a narrow point of land jutting due west into the Pacific Ocean north of Newport, at Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area.  Winds and rain have buffeted this lighthouse since its beginning in 1872.

  • Captain Andy"

    Captain Andy

Almost every trip I make to the Coast of Oregon includes a trip to Newport Harbor. Great views, food at Mo's (and other fine resturants). Also the raucous seals that hang out in Newport Harbor are a tourist attraction in themselves.

Here is Captain Andy just back after crabbing in the Pacific! Yum!
